A 40-year-old driver will not serve any jail time for running a red light and killing a young university student in Sydney's inner west, with the judge noting a moment's inattention was the reason for the accident.

Dany Mazbouh pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death after he hit 21-year-old Louisa Huang as she walked across a pedestrian crossing at Strathfield in January 2016.

Ms Huang was taken to Westmead Hospital but died from severe head injuries.

Mazbouh also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm because two of the young woman's friends were hurt in the accident.
